After completing the Nine Inch Nails: Vote Cube 2028 I couldn’t shake the Year Zero feeling off. I wanted to do another project, something that was simple, but could have depth to it if I choose to. Most of all, grounded (maybe too much) in the ARG of Year Zero and current RL events.

• The “Low-Level” version of this project is a simple redacted poster (12″ x 18″) that looks like a United States Bureau of Morality (USBM) memo that has a ton of redactions. What’s left legible spells out the track listing to the album.
• The “Mid-Level” version of this poster is pretty much the same as the “Low-Level”, with one key difference. You have the fully unredacted poster that brings in and weaves past and current events of real life into the the world of YZ and makes it “current”. The timeline of events adds an addition layer of warning. You can choose to leave it fully unredacted, take a sharpie and 1-for-1 hand redact it like I did, or redacted what you feel like.
• The “High-Level” version is printing out the unredacted version and placing a transparency sheet of the same size over it, connecting it at the top to the poster with tape. You then do your our redactions and A.I.R. graffiti on top of the transparency sheet. This allows you to lift the sheet, as if to “lift the veil” of secrecy to see knowledge you can’t unsee.

I like how this came out. It makes me reflect on the ARG and album that is nearly 20 years old at this point. The world was different, but the warnings of Year Zero are ever present. I think that was the main driver to do something like this.
